  There is 15 years of Kazakhstan Independence and now we have doubts on what kind of State we build. Who we are? Our artists will try to give the answer on this question, and reflect on our political, social, national and cultural problems. Government's experiments should be the object for art experiment.

  The opening will take place on October 3, 2006 at 18.30.

 THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
OF THE EXPERIMENTAL MEDIA-ART IN CENTRAL ASIA

  The first international festival of experimental media art “REPLICA” will take place on the 7th of October 2006 in Da Freak night club in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and will last twelve hours non-stop. It will show the participants wide spectrum of actual trends of modern culture.
   12-hours non-stop event will start at 20.00.

   Intending to introduce the superior works of the Islamic World Painting, Iranian Academy of the Arts is about to hold The 4th International Biennial of the Islamic World Contemporary Painting (deadline is September, 30, 2006) and The 2nd International Biennial of Posters (deadline is December, 22, 2006) in the Islamic World at Saba Cultural and Artistic Institute .
  Hereby we invite you to deliver at most 5 works to be presented in this exhibition to the secretariat of the Biennial. It should be mentioned that the most appropriate of the submitted works will be selected to be presented in the exhibition.

  Curatorial group of VIDEOLOGIA is calling for entries for the official selection program of the III International festival of audio-visual arts that will take place in Volgograd, Russia, in November of 2006. Artists and directors working with short films, video art, animation, documentary films, net art and various visual experiments are welcome to participate! All selected titles will be screened in the cinema halls and art galleries and evaluated by the independent jury and local audience. Details >>>

Aygerim Issabekova, young artist from Karaganda city (Kazakhstan), became one of selected artist to participate Istanbul Residency Programme at Platform Garanti CAC which will be realised under Open Society Institute grant. She is invited to Istanbul to join the residency programme for 2 months starting February 2007.

În July, 6, in Astana the Culture-Platform Festival took place. It was organized by the Technologies of Perception group, Soros Center for Contemporary Art-Almaty and Contemporary Art Museum - Astana, with a financial support of Astana government.
Festival participants was G. Tryakin-Bukharov, E. Meldibekov, S. Atabekov, S. Narymbetov, V. Simakov, G. Chagataeva, R. Arefiev, K. Timoshenko, K. Shvydko from Kazakhstan and street theathre of the of Young Talent's Support Fund from Kyrgyzstan.

On the 19-20 May 2006 in the Soros Center for Contemporary Art- Almaty took place the seminar Growing an Environment for an Artistic Dialogue. It was organized by SCCA-Almaty and CEC ArtsLink (USA). Todd Bishop, Charlotte Cohen, Christian Haye, Gordon Knox, Trevor Smith gave lectures for 23 Central Asian artists, curators and art-managers.

  Arystan Shalbaev (Kazakhstan) has won Jury Prize for the Best Video on International Byshkek 1-st April's contest "Avtoportret v nature" (Self portrait).

  Vyacheslav Akhunov (Uzbekistan), Gulnara Kasmalieva and Muratbek Dzhumaliev (Kyrgyzstan) will take part in the coming Singapur Biennial.

  SCCA-Almaty has started New Media Laboratory project. After the application's contest, we have choose 13 students, who will, during next 2,5 monthes, learn contemporary art, new ideas in directing. Also they will learn about media-art and how to work with the montage equipment. Then they will produce their own projects for the final exhibition.

Dear friends,
Only few our artists you can find in Kazakhstan at the second period of March, because most of them take part in international art vevnts like festivals and exhibitions in: Russia, USA, Germany and in Australia.

  1. On 15th of March, Erbossyn Meldibekov has left to Moscow, Russia. He is going to prepare his personal exhibition Hyper-Myslim in Guelman's Gallery. It will be opened on March, 20, at 18.00

  2. On 17th of March, Said Atabekov and Valeria Ibraeva (Kazakhstan), Gulnara Kasmalieva and Muratbek Dzhumaliev (Kyrgyzstan) are fly to New York (USA), on Russian Redux#2 Exhibition. Press-release of this exhibition you can read here. Moreover, Erbossyn Meldibekov will participate in this exhibition too. By the way, among SCCA-Almaty 's friends Erbossyn has got a nickname “Virus”.

  3. On 23th of March, Moldakul Narymbetov and Arystan Shalbaev are fly to Hamburg (Germany) where they will take part in Perfomance Festival. Almagul Menlibaeva will perform on this Festival too.

  4. We also happy to inform you that Almagul Menlibaeva, Yelena and Victor Vorobyov's are choosen for official list of artists for coming Sydney Biennial.

"Tamerlan Syndrome" (Contemporary Art of Central Asia) Exhibition is on air in the Italian Orvieto City, as it was announced before.
The catalogue of the exhibition was published by Skira Editore.
There are some copies of catalogue in the library of Soros Centre for Contemporary Art-Almaty.
You can order an issue in Skira (www.skira.net), price - 25 euros.        

Museum in the Changing World seminar took place on August 18-21, 2005, in the Soros Center for Contemporary Art-Almaty. Lectors from the Laboratory or Museum Projecting (Moscow, Russia) worked with 14 students from 4 Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Organizers are SCCA-Almaty and UNESCO.

ANTIPARTY GANG group with a support of British Council and SCCA-Almaty has presented SOUNDVISION project. Project dedicated to contemporary electromusic and Vj'ing from British musicians and visual artists.
