“Shezhire” in Kazakh means “a genealogical tree” or “genealogy of a people or a person”. The genealogical tree of the Turkic peoples is thousands of years old. However, for a Kazakh, history is not the gray dust of old times but is an evergreen tree that renews itself each spring. History for Kazakhs is a live chain of generations, it is traditions of a people that persevere from one century to another and it is the main purpose of the “Shezhire” gallery to keep those traditions alive. Central Asia is a heart of the Eurasian continent. The histories of all the peoples inhabiting this space are closely intertwined with each other as they represent the branches of the same tree. By calling our gallery “Shezhire”, we are striving to expose the common roots of the brother Turkic nations and demonstrate their unity through the constantly changing images of the traditional and modern arts of the peoples of Central Asia and Kazakhstan.
The central element of the word “Shezhire” is a stylized letter “Zh” is also an ornamental element called “ormekshi” (spider, web-spinner in Kazakh). The logotype reflects the free spirit of the World Wide Web, where the “Shezhire” gallery is represented on a website – www.gallery.kz
